Pan's Labyrinth Movie Review 2020 | Oye Cinema Club

By Oye Dimelo Network •  Updated: 06/22/21 •  3 min read

Pan’s Labyrinth is a dark, nearly two-hour movie with no dialogue and an ending that will leave you heartbroken. It tells the story of Ofelia who finds herself in a magical world where she has to complete three tasks to return home. The film features fantastical creatures, including the terrifying Pale Man, but it also deals with real issues like fascism and war. There are some intense scenes so I wouldn’t recommend this for young children or those sensitive to violence. The film was nominated for six Oscars when it came out in 2006 and won three: Best Art Direction; Best Cinematography; and Best Makeup/Hairstyling.

Pan’s Labyrinth Movie Review | Oye Cinema Club

1. The movie is about a girl named Ofelia whose mother has died and she now lives with her cold-hearted stepfather

2. She soon meets Pan, the faun, in the labyrinth when she is told to go there by her mother’s ghost

3. She then makes a deal with him that if she can complete three tasks he will bring her back to live with her father

4. Through these tasks we see Ofelia grow up from being a child into an adult woman but also become unconvinced of what is real and what isn’t

5. The film ends on a bittersweet note as it shows us how much time has passed since the events of the movie and where each character now stands in their life

6. I thoroughly enjoyed this film because it was very well made and had many interesting themes throughout all while keeping me engaged for its entirety

7) This film would be best suited for someone who enjoys fantasy films or movies that have a deep meaning behind them

Here is a video review of the epic film “Pan’s Labyrinth” by members of our Cinema Club. We hope you enjoy it!

This film is about a girl, Ofelia who finds herself drawn into the world of an overgrown labyrinth. She meets a faun creature and they go on this adventure for her to become queen of the underworld. As she grows up in real life with her mother Carmen and step-father Captain Vidal hunting Spanish Maquis rebels in 1944 Spain while waiting for the arrival of baby brother from America, reality becomes clear as day versus fantasy when she must confront these two worlds head-on. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie because it was very well made and had many interesting themes throughout all while keeping me engaged for its entirety. It would be best suited if you enjoy films that are deep or have fantasies intertwined between them.”
