Here is a video review of the epic film “Mank” by members of our Cinema Club. We hope you enjoy it!
The Mank Movie Review – Directed by David Fincher, starring Gary Oldman as Herman J. Mankiewicz and Amanda Seyfried as Virginia Nicolson (aka ‘Ginny’). 1930’s Hollywood is reevaluated through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman Josiah Mankiewicz as he races to finish the screenplay for Citizen Kane (1941). He battles against complications created from both his personal life and family history while trying to find an adaptation that will resonate with audiences in this era—the birthplace of movies. With Tom Pelphrey as Buddy and Lily Collins as Dee, this movie is a must-see for all film lovers.
It’s time for a new perspective on Hollywood and the movies that we love. The Mank Movie Review is an exploration of what it takes to make a movie, how they are consumed in this era, and who benefits from them. You’ll get to see behind the scenes of some of your favorite films while also getting more insight into their creative process. What does our culture want? How can you give it to us? This documentary explores these questions as well as many others about cinema through Herman J. Mankiewicz’s eyes—a screenwriter looking at 1930s Hollywood with fresh eyes like ours today.
Mank is a fascinating, funny, and heartbreaking biopic that will surely be one of the best films of the year. The story it tells has been told before but never so well or in such detail as this film does with its titular lead character. If you want to see an honest film about Hollywood at its root then I highly recommend checking out Mank for yourself. It’s not perfect (mostly due to pacing) but it’s worth your time if you’re looking for something new and different from what we’ve seen before on screen. Oye Cinema Club Review- go watch!
