Here is a video review of the epic film “Cronos” by members of our Cinema Club. We hope you enjoy it!

It’s not often you get to see a director who is as passionate about the horror genre and filmmaking in general, but Guillermo del Toro has proven time and again that he deserves his spot amongst cinema’s best. Cronos tells an eerie story of immortality gone wrong with style, suspense, and panache; this was before we knew what justice could feel like. The film touches on religion, faith, greed – all while still retaining its black humor streak.

We’re introduced to Jesus Gris (Federico Luppi), an antique dealer who comes into possession of a mysterious device capable of granting immortality after accidentally discovering it hidden inside one of his antiques sold at auction. Del Toro leaves absolutely no detail untouched: from the old-fashioned blood transfusion machine to El Jaunto, an ancient alchemist who provides Jesus with a real “potion of life.”

The film is rich in symbolism and philosophical questions that may be too esoteric for some audiences. It’s this kind of filmmaking that sets del Toro apart from his contemporaries – he doesn’t just tell a story but rather weaves together images into something greater than the sum of its parts: cinema as art. Cronos is another shining example of why Guillermo del Toro will always have one foot firmly placed among cinematic greats.

The story of a mysterious device designed to provide its owner with eternal life resurfaces after four hundred years, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. This thought-provoking film offers an enticing twist on the classic battle between good and evil that will keep you guessing until the very end. If you’re looking for something new and different from what’s offered at your local theater, then we highly recommend going out to see this movie tonight!
